How OCR Processing Works: To recognise text, your image or document is sent over an encrypted HTTPS connection to our server and on to our OCR provider, which returns the extracted text. We do not store your file or the extracted text once the request has completed. If you require processing that never leaves your own device, please use offline OCR software instead of any online service.

2. Data Collection & Document Processing

We believe in privacy by design. Here is how document data is handled:

  • How Your File Is Processed: When you select an image or PDF, your browser prepares it and sends it to our OCR endpoint, which forwards it to our OCR provider (Mistral AI) for text recognition. PDF page rendering and any brightness, contrast or rotation adjustments you apply happen in your browser before the file is sent. If our OCR provider is unreachable, the tool falls back to Tesseract.js, which runs inside your browser using WebAssembly; in that fallback case the file is not sent anywhere.
  • No Document Storage On Our Side: We do not save, copy, archive, or analyse your files or extracted text on our servers. Your file is held only in memory for the duration of the request and is not written to disk by us. When you close or refresh the page, all temporary working data in your browser is erased. Handling of data once it reaches our OCR provider is governed by that provider's own privacy terms, linked below.
  • No Personal Information Required: You do not need to register, create an account, or provide your name, email address, or payment details to use OCRTool.net.

3. Cookies & Local Storage

OCRTool.net uses minimal web storage mechanisms to ensure essential site operation and statistical monitoring:

  • Browser Local Storage: We may save minor user UI preferences (such as selected language, default output format, or image contrast adjustments) directly in your browser's local storage so your settings persist between visits.
  • Analytics Cookies: We utilize first-party and third-party cookies for aggregate traffic measurement via Google Analytics. These cookies measure site usage patterns without identifying individual document contents or personal identities.

4. Third-Party Services

To operate and support our free website, we integrate specific third-party services subject to their respective privacy standards:

  • Google Analytics (GA4): We use Google Analytics (Property ID: G-P3JT9CK2JN) to collect anonymized website traffic information, such as browser types, device categories, referring sites, and pageview counts. You can opt out of Google Analytics via standard browser privacy controls or official opt-out browser add-ons.
  • Google AdSense: We display advertisements served by Google AdSense to fund site development. Google and its partners may use cookies to serve ads based on prior visits to our site or other websites on the internet.
  • Mistral AI (OCR provider): Mistral AI's OCR model is the primary text-recognition engine for this site, so an image or document you submit for OCR is proxied to the Mistral AI API over an encrypted connection. Only the image payload needed for that request is sent, and we keep no persistent copy of it. Mistral's own handling of API data is described in their privacy policy at mistral.ai/terms.

5. User Rights & Data Control

Depending on your jurisdiction (including rights under GDPR, CCPA, or regional privacy regulations), you hold full control over your digital footprint on OCRTool.net:

  • Right to Local Erasure: You can clear your browser cookies and local storage at any time through your browser settings.
  • Right to Anonymity: You are free to use our tools anonymously without providing any identity credentials.
  • Do Not Track & Cookie Control: You can configure your browser to decline third-party cookies or block analytical scripts without affecting the image-to-text tools themselves.

6. Children's Privacy
